All that you wanted to know about the WII HDTV cables by Damon
Your TV has to be a high-definition TV or an enhanced-definition TV if you want to view 480p output. The WII settings will have to be changed from Standard TV (480i) to EDTV/HDTV in order to view 480p. Do remember that you cannot see WII progressive display output if the WII console system is hooked to a TV by using some other cable and not the WII HDTV cables.
This is because the component video cable is for the WII and will not work with any other system.
You can use the video cable supplied with the Nintendo WII with both standard as well as high-definition televisions having composite video connectors. But you can connect the WII console to HDTVs by using the WII cables or the optional WII component video cable only. These WII cables are sold separately. These can be used only with HDTVs having component video connectors. This way the video that is displayed from the WII will be of a much higher resolution than that from the standard WII video cable.
You need to turn off both the WII as well as your HDTV before you hook up these WII cables. Then, locate the connectors on your television. Usually, the component input is located at the back of the television.
Connect the three WII HDTV cables with the video component jacks that are present on your HDTV. These three cables will be bundled together. They would be separate from the two audio cables. Plug the green video cable into the green jack. Plug the blue video cable into the blue jack. Plug the red video cable into the red jack. You need to connect the two audio cables to the audio component jacks on your HDTV. You will see the red and white audio cables bundled together. The red WII HDTV cables must be plugged into the red jack while the white WII HDTV cables will be plugged into the white jack. You need to leave the yellow WII HDTV cables unplugged if your model of the WII component video cable came with a sixth yellow cable.
Next, plug the rectangular connector that is at the other end of the WII HDTV cables into the “Digital AV Out” port located on the back of the WII console. You must turn on both the HDTV as well as WII. Remember that the WII HDTV cables are specific to their game consoles.
